Nissan has (finally) released pricing for the much anticipated new all electric Leaf, in a recent press release they had this to said the Leaf base MSRP will be$32,780 in the United States and we will begin taking orders on April 20. When combined with a $7,500 federal tax credit, the Leaf will be priced at $25,280. State and local credits can further reduce the cost to consumers; here in So Cal actual net pricing could be as low as the $23,000.00 range. There are also tax credits and local rebates for the home charging units as well. With current cost conversions the price to 'fill up' your LEAF could be under $3.00! Click here to read the press release and here to get started on a LEAF of your own… Even the folks over at MSNBC have had to admit that the next generations Model T will be built by Nissan and its name will be LEAF. Yes, I did coin the phrase! In an article titled the 'Ten cars to look forward to in 2010' guess what vehicle they put at the top of the list? Well, I'll let them say it properly... "For the true believers, nirvana is only a year away. That is when Nissan will begin the first sales of the Leaf, marking the first time a major manufacturer has offered a mass-produced battery-powered electric car. Sure, they’ve dabbled with converted gas models in the past, but the Leaf turns over a new frond as a purpose-built model that hasn’t a whiff of “science project” about it." I so love the way "I told you so" sounds as it rolls off the tongue.... never get tired of it!! Check out the rest of the list here. Stay with me here... When Nissan was still in the development stages of the all electric vehicle we now know as the coming LEAF, safety was one of the big concerns, particularly pedestrian safety. It seem one of the issues that the folks at toyota continue to deal with is the fact that the prius emits no sound when traveling under 5 mph and there a number of reported injuries from folks that stepped out in front of one and were hit! To ensure folks know when a LEAF is near Nissan went to pretty extreme lengths to not only give thier electric vehicle sound but bitchen sound! Toshiyuki Tabata is the 'noise and vibration' specialist at Nissan he wanted the LEAF to not only make a unique and signature sound but it also had to be way cool. “We decided that if we’re going to do this, if we have to make sound, then we’re going to make it beautiful and futuristic,” Tabata said. The company consulted Japanese composers of film scores. What Tabata and his six-member team came up with is a high- pitched sound reminiscent of the flying cars in “Blade Runner,” the 1982 film directed by Ridley Scott portraying his dystopian vision of 2019. True story, I even found it on the Bloomberg site, you can read it all here. YES, I read Bloomberg..... shut up! In a related story, toyota announced that they are looking into providing sound for the prius. They are experimenting with playing a taped loop of Ed Begly Jr. loudly saying "get out of my way, I'm better than you" !!! As announced previously the micro site for the all new electric vehicle, now know to be named the Leaf, launched today with specs, pic and the whole story of Nissan's 'Holistic Approach'. The new Leaf has a cruising range of 100 miles on a full charge, can be quick charged to 80% in a half hour and NO TAIL PIPE! Take a few to check out the site here for all the scoop, no word on pricing yet... |
