By bringing the 'cool' into personal electronic transportation devices Nissan has once again gained the edge in people moving! While Honda has introduced some cool devices lately and well toyota just sucks, there just wasnt any 'cool' in any of their forms of mobility. Enter the Nissan prototype 'twin ski' system of personal mobility while looking cool. Ok, i added the looking cool part... While surfing the plasticpals site, um dont even ask.... I stumbled upon the newest way to get across the warehouse, office, quad ect. Heres a brief overview, "The foot boards have handle bars attached to help you maintain balance, and can be connected in a variety of positions or separated. When separated, the device only moves forwards and backwards. To turn, you simply lift and turn your leg as if you were wearing stilts. The overall effect is one of ski-less skis." Read the whole story here. I gotta get a pair for cruisin the lot...

Stay with me here... When Nissan was still in the development stages of the all electric vehicle we now know as the coming LEAF, safety was one of the big concerns, particularly pedestrian safety. It seem one of the issues that the folks at toyota continue to deal with is the fact that the prius emits no sound when traveling under 5 mph and there a number of reported injuries from folks that stepped out in front of one and were hit! To ensure folks know when a LEAF is near Nissan went to pretty extreme lengths to not only give thier electric vehicle sound but bitchen sound! Toshiyuki Tabata is the 'noise and vibration' specialist at Nissan he wanted the LEAF to not only make a unique and signature sound but it also had to be way cool. “We decided that if we’re going to do this, if we have to make sound, then we’re going to make it beautiful and futuristic,” Tabata said. The company consulted Japanese composers of film scores. What Tabata and his six-member team came up with is a high- pitched sound reminiscent of the flying cars in “Blade Runner,” the 1982 film directed by Ridley Scott portraying his dystopian vision of 2019. True story, I even found it on the Bloomberg site, you can read it all here. YES, I read Bloomberg..... shut up! In a related story, toyota announced that they are looking into providing sound for the prius. They are experimenting with playing a taped loop of Ed Begly Jr. loudly saying "get out of my way, I'm better than you" !!! Ok, not exactly today, but it WAS 40 years ago this month that the Nissan Z car legend was born. Thats right, 40 short years ago you could purchase yourself an authentic, pure performance sports car for a mere $3,626.00! With the celebrations of the legend come many newsworthy items. First up the just announced 40th Anniversary edition 370Z, to be released in the spring of 2010;details and some great pics here. Next up is the newest member of the Z tuners family, Germany's Senner Tuning and their 'Whitelady Z' which will be shown at this years SEMA show which you can see here. I am sure with all the history of the Z there are sure to be many more Z related stories, mods, kits, races ect. so be sure to check back often for all the newest Z news! Now, I am a pretty serious Nissan Guy but these folks are totally devoted! A couple down in the very 'uncrazy' state of Texas decided to hold their wedding ceremony on a showroom surrounded by vintage Nissans including some very nice JDM original Skylines! Most folks like to take some real artsy type pics with their rings, like on a rose stem or at the bottom of a champagne glass but on a fuel line? The link takes you to all the pics, apparently there is no length fans will go when it comes to the following of the might Skyline! See it all here. In response to the recnt tragic events all across south east Asia, Nissan Corparation is offering its assistance with huge donations to help those in need. "3 million yen will be provided to those affected by Typhoon Ketsana, which hit the Philippines on September 26. 5 million yen will be provided to aid victims of the devastating earthquake on September 30 in Sumatra, and Samoa, which was struck by a tsunami on September 29, will receive 1 million yen through Medecins Sans Frontieres Japan" In addition the Nissan dealers in the area are also offering help, "Local Nissan sales companies have also begun contributions in the affected areas. Universal Motors Philippines has loaned vehicles free of charge to assist in recovery activities, and Nissan Motor Indonesia is preparing funds for the renovation of local schools run by non-profit organizations." Yes Nissan is a company that makes cars, but its also a company of people that care about the people that drive those cars too. After a real tough situation its great to hear about a company that is doing their part. Click here for the official stuff. |
