This year has been a blur, I'm still not entirely convinced that its really over but the livestream action from Times Square begs to differ so I have to go with it! A BIG thank you to my faithful followers and even those occasional readers, I have not stayed up with this site as much as I surely would have liked too but work getting in the way is a good thing because iffin I had time to blog all day that would be BAD! Stay Safe, have a Happy New Year and I'll see ya on the other side... :)

In more than a few past Friday CarPorn posts I have mentioned Orange County Intl Raceway, or I should say the ole OCIR in Irvine! I pretty much grew up in the pits of that place, running round the cars and breathin the good ole nitro! Had an uncle who was the chief builder for Dougs Headers and it allowed me total access to everything, kinda mechanical royalty if you will. I was scrolling thru pics looking for this weeks CarPorn and my jaw hit the desk top when i stumbled onto this one! Believe it or not I can actually remember this night, two of my favs blasting thru the summer darkness under the lights of my youth... Both these ride were on my wall in my room and I used to think Don Prudhomme was some kind of god, or at least a jr. god! So many awesome memories in this one pic alone, the tower, the ARMY funny car, and who remembers the SuperShops?!!!! What a great find and a great night! As you enjoy your Friday, Christmas eve style, know all that Mike theCarGuy wishes everyone the Merriest of Christmas and all the very best in the New Year! :) Even casual fans of my ramblings know that I'm a gear head at heart, er head... whatev! I Love Me some cars! As a mechanic, yes I still work on em(!), I love to see engines, especially stickin out of hoods! Hardcore followers will remember a shot of a Bonneville racer Buick I posted some time ago with an offset blower pooping up thru that mile long hood, well I found me another straight eight to ogle at! This one is so bitchen it gets and expanded gallery! Bombshell Betty is runnin a 1950 Buick big block straight eight. with .020 over high comp Arias pistons,a seriously agressive flowed head, fairly radical Comp. Cam and a Quick Fuel drag 750 that all come together to push this baby up to a record holding 141.29 mph! Thats a SCTA XO / GCC class world record by the way! Read more about Jeff Brocks beautiful ride at the JalopyJournal here and see some stunning pics of her here! Enjoy and have a great Friday! :) Recently I shot some pics of the empty dealers that surround us here in the San Berrnardino Auto Center and posted a sort of photo essay about these tough times. Well, as the saying goes, "tough times never last, tough people do" I guess I must be at least a lil tough cause I'm still here and we are still selling cars and "Rebuilding the Inland Empire one Kia at a time!' One big sign that we are least on the road to recovery, though its a road chock full 'o potholes(!), is the new sign going up for our once nearly dead center. And a big sign it is at over 70 feet tall and once done will light the Inland Empire night sky just like Vegas baby! It sounds cheesy but it is really a good feeling to know I am part of bringing life back to San Berdo! :) My more mechanicaly minded readers will quickly notice that this weeks Firday CarPorn isnt from a car at all... However it is bitchen, AND it is my site damn it! Any guy/girl with some hands on mechanical experience will get the sheer awesomeness of a super powerful aircraft radial engine, trust me on this if you arent feeling it its because you havent pulled apart a motor in your earlier years! This shot combines two of my all time favorite things, engines and WWII War Birds! As a kid I was simply obssed with planes like the F4-U Corsair and of course the P51, werent we all?! Yes, those V12 Merlin and Packard power houses ruled the skys but these radials were bitchen none the less and this one just gleams with bitcheness! Enjoy and Happy Friday! "The White House and the South Korean government reached a tentative deal today on a long-delayed free-trade agreement that now can be sent to Congress for approval, a source familiar with the situation told The Detroit News. Korean media, the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg News reported that the countries reached an agreement that will phase out over five years U.S. tariffs on Korean-made vehicles such as the all new 2011 Kia Optima." I dunno bout you but this is welcome news to my ears, er eyes that is! Read the whole post over at the Detroit News Auto Insider section here. |
