My entrance into this thing called Social Media...

My foray into this strange world known as Social Media began back in 2005 when I joined Spoke, at the time I considered myself too old to do any of that MySpace stuff and didn’t see any business opportunities in it! Shortly after I joined LinkedIn and for the most part keep that site really current with my contact info, accomplishments and work history. Of course I got onto Facebook as well, at first on a personal level but as Mike theCarGuy it has also allowed me to contact and share with some really great car people across the country I would never have had the chance to meet otherwise! I was late to the Twitter party but I have caught up fast and have nearly 700 followers including some really heavy hitters in the car biz! When I joined Foursquare I was the 741548th member, they currently report over 20 million users. Gowalla was next but now they are gone so that was a lot of work for no return! Klout was next for me and although I don’t focus a ton of attention on it my score stays steady at around 72 so I’m doing pretty good. I was an invited, Beta member of Google+ well before it was opened up to everyone and I am proud to say I the page I created for the dealership I was working for back on November 7th, 2011 was one the first car dealership pages created. Having only had a decent camera phone in the last year or so I nearly missed the Instagram craze however I have caught up, well at least with quantity if not quality! YouTube has been a medium I have wanted to get stronger in and have been getting more and more active with but I still have a lot more to go before I can get all 'Gangnam Style' and stuff! And lets not forget Pinterest which I was able to finagle an invite into well before my wife could get in and start pinning recipes and Hello Kitty pics! Not to mention the dozen or so forums I belong to though I will admit I am more of a lurker than a poster as I am always reading through trying to stay on top of what’s news and what’s new in this ever changing scene but never seem to have time to reply or post my own stuff much. That all being said I wouldn’t ever consider myself a ‘Social Media Guru’ however, one thing NO ONE can call me is an amateur!!
