Pictured here is the ultimate antithesis to all hybrids on the road and in showrooms across the country. That there folks, is the lower engine assembly to the largest engine on the planet and guess what it powers? Yes fans, its the power to the huge transport ships that bring crude oil here for processing into gas for all those stupid prius drivers to smugly pour into their little lies. The little lies they drive down the carpool lane at 85 mph clearly NOT conserving fuel as intended but merely allowing them to tell their friends they are helping the environment! "The Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C turbocharged two-stroke diesel engine is the most powerful and most efficient prime-mover in the world today. The Aioi Works of Japan's Diesel United, Ltd built the first engines and is where some of these pictures were taken. It is available in 6 through 14 cylinder versions, all are inline engines. These engines were designed primarily for very large container ships. Ship owners like a single engine/single propeller design and the new generation of larger container ships needed a bigger engine to propel them. The cylinder bore is just under 38" and the stroke is just over 98". Each cylinder displaces 111,143 cubic inches (1820 liters) and produces 7780 horsepower. Total displacement comes out to 1,556,002 cubic inches (25,480 liters) for the fourteen cylinder version." As a lifelong car guy all I can muster is, wow! Just one cylinder is a little more than 100 Versa engines! The reason I call this the Hybrid antithesis is that these babies consume roughly 1660 GALLONS of fuel per hour! Yeah, your math is correct, a trip from the middel east to New York takes something like 680,000 gallons of fuel! So pretty much every person in California could buy one of those little smug mobiles tomorrow and the cumulative effort would make a difference of about squat! If ever there was a convincing argument for EV, like our LEAF(!), it can be found here! And yes, I do fully expect a smug retort from Ed Beagly Jr in the comments section soon!
