Many of my colleagues assume that I am 'anti-vendor' when listening to my rants about allowing 3rd party companies to post on behalf of car dealers. I'm more about raising awareness of the importance of knowing whats being said online for your store. Dealer life is busy and chaotic, trust me I know, however simply handing the keys to your stores digital presence to a company that may not have your dealerships brand at the top of whats important could cost much more than the couple grand you pay them each month.... Among the many issues I have with (MANY, but not all) 3rd party social media vendors is the lack of real understanding of the dealerships culture and their community. Many companies are still scheduling very vague posts though Hootsuite or other services and posting to multiple dealerships social pages with little to no regard to how they represent those dealers let alone how well they perform or engage. Worse yet, some are using pictures they lazily copied and pasted as in the example below; the water mark alone clearly shows the image was copied from Shutterstock without permission AND the link goes to the very page it was stolen from! This isn't a post from 2005, it was YESTERDAY! Even if you aren't sure who created the Facebook, Twitter, Google+ etc page for your dealership, the fact is that your store has a digital brand. If you don't have the time to actively manage that brand and just pay someone else to do it without inspecting what you expect, you cant very well expect much...... Get online, look at whats being said on behalf of and about your dealership. If you are unsure about where to start or think it is going to be difficult, join me at Digital Dealer in Las Vegas on August 9th at 3:00, my session is called 'Getting Socially Savvy at the Sales Desk'! I will show you how to go back to your store and immediately take control of your stores brand!
